Fix Audi USB Music Play
Introduction
I often play music from a USB drive in my Audi. However, a few days ago, I found that the USB music play was not working properly. The system could show the files in the USB drive, but when I tried to play the music by pressing on the music file, nothing would happen. In a separate panel, the system would show “loading the source” forever, which definitely looks abnormal.
In this blog post, I would like to share my experience on how I fixed the USB music play issue in my Audi.
Unsuccessful Attempts
Turn Off and On The Fire
At first, I thought it could be fixed by restarting the car. I turned off the fire, waited for a few minutes, and turned it back on. However, the USB music play was still not working.
Flash The USB Drive
Then I thought maybe somehow the USB drive was corrupted, even though it sounds unlikely. I flashed the USB drive with a new FAT32 file system and copied the music files back to the USB drive. However, the USB music play was still not working.
Successful Solution
Restart The MMI System
It turns out that restarting the MMI system is the solution to fix the USB music play issue. In fact, turning off the fire and turning it back on does not restart the MMI system. Instead, we will have to press and hold the “Volume” knob for about 10 seconds until the MMI system screens go black. After that, the MMI system will restart and the USB music play will work again.
