Point Reyes National Seashore - Historic Ranches

Introduction

On December 28th, 2025, I visited Point Reyes National Seashore and visited several historic ranches in the area. At sunset time, on my way back to hotel, I encountered a group of Tule Elks, all of which were males, eating grasses in the historic ranch. Surprisingly, a male elk with large antlers seemed to try to mate with another male elk that has no antlers. The male elk with large antlers went on top of the other male elk and I could even see its genital. This behavior was quite unexpected and interesting to observe.
