Embed Google Map for Free

Introduction

I was looking for ways to embed a Google Map to my website that contains multiples of custom locations using some kind of JavaScript APIs from Google. Google Map does have such kind of API, but unfortunately it is not free.

For my use case, the custom locations on the map are always “static” rather than “dynamic”, so I don’t want to pay for using Google Map for a such simple use case. It turns out that Google Map does allow the user to embed a Google Map via manual setup.

The instructions to follow was from Google officially. It also allows exporting and importing data from files, making it easier if the user wants to automate the data preprocessing step. So it perfectly suits my use case.

For example, using the following Google Map shows the places that I have visited in recent years, including the parks, museums, natural preserves, etc.
