Ubuntu LaTeX Installation

Introduction

Instead of using the online LaTeX editor Overleaf, I sometimes use LaTeX locally on my Ubuntu machine. Because I the Ubuntu operating system gets updated frequently, I have to reinstall LaTeX every time I upgrade my Ubuntu. However, when I tried to Google the LaTex installation command for Ubuntu, sometimes I found the commands returned by Google were not useful for me.

In this blog post, I would just like to quickly document the simple LaTeX installation commands for Ubuntu.

Ubuntu LaTeX Installation

We only need two components, texlive-full and texmaker, for essential LaTeX editing and compiling on Ubuntu.

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get -y texlive-full texmaker

Run Ubuntu LaTeX Editor

The texmaker is the LaTeX editor with GUI.

$ texmaker
