Ardenwood Historic Farm

Introduction

On June 6th, 2026, I visited Ardenwood Historic Farm at Fremont, California, for hiking and photography. The last time I visited this farm was in 2025, and I wanted to see if I could photograph the migrated Monarch Butterflies there. I was a little bit disappointed at that time because there were not too many Monarch Butterflies there. However, very unexpectedly, I encountered a lot of Monarch Butterflies around the greenhouse which is surrounded by lots of flowers. Intestingly, I also found an Allen’s Hummingbird, for the first time in my life, chasing off Monarch Butterflies and other hummingbirds. The greenhouse area is probably its territory. There is one another interesting thing I observed. A female House Finch I encountered has white eyebrows. The last time I visited this farm, I was not able to see a pig. This time, I was still not able to see a pig on the farm. So I strongly doubt if there is a pig on the farm.

Some of the other interesting birds I photographed there are American Bushtit, Western Bluebird, Bewick’s Wren, White-Breasted Nuthatch, Wild Turkey, Red-Tailed Hawk, California Towhee, Turkey Vulture, Black Phoebe, and Peacock.
